PPA cover teacher jobs — regular school cover work with Humly

QTS-qualified teachers can book PPA cover sessions in primary schools through the Humly app — flexible, regular work.

What does a PPA Cover Teacher do?

PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) cover teachers step in to teach classes while their regular teacher takes their statutory 10% PPA time. It is one of the most regular and predictable forms of supply teaching — many PPA cover teachers work the same school on the same days each week, providing consistent, reliable income.

PPA cover work through Humly is ideal for teachers who want regular, predictable work without a full-time commitment. Set your available days, and Humly matches you with schools that need consistent PPA cover.

    Frequently asked questions

What does a PPA cover teacher do?+

A PPA cover teacher takes over a class for set sessions each week while the class teacher uses their statutory planning, preparation and assessment time. You follow the class teacher's plans and deliver specific subjects or activities.

Is PPA cover teaching regular work?+

Yes — PPA cover is often the most regular form of supply teaching. Many schools have the same cover needs every week throughout the term, meaning PPA cover teachers can secure consistent work at the same school.

Do I need QTS to work as a PPA cover teacher?+

Yes — delivering PPA cover requires QTS as you are responsible for teaching the class, not merely supervising it. This distinguishes PPA cover from cover supervision.

Can I do PPA cover alongside other supply work?+

Yes — many Humly educators combine PPA cover on set days with day-to-day supply work on other days. The Humly app shows all available work in one place.
